Cash Flow Quadrant

Have you heard of Robert Kiyosaki? I guess you'll be more familiar with Rich Dad, Poor Dad series of motivational books..and Robert Kiyosaki is the author. Why name it Rich Dad, Poor Dad? I didnt know until I read bout it.

The author has 2 dads, one is his own dad and another is his best friend's dad. His own dad is highly educated, but poor. His advice to Robert Kiyosaki is "Go to school, get good grades, and get a good secure jobs." Whereas his best friend's dad, the rich but uneducated one, always advice Robert Kiyosaki and his best friend to have 'financial intelligence' and taught them lots on financial issues.

Kiyosaki stresses what he calls "financial literacy" as the means to obtaining wealth. He says that life skills are often best learned through experience and that there are important lessons not taught in school. He says that formal education is primarily for those seeking to be employees or self-employed individuals, and that this is an "Industrial Age idea". And according to Kiyosaki, in order to obtain financial freedom, one must be either a business owner or an investor, generating passive income (quoted from Wikipedia).

The boyfriend loves reading his series of books and has a collection of his books. Recently I took one of the series to read, which is the "Cash Flow Quadrant" and I find it very interesting. The book describes how all the money in the world is earned.

This book is more to understanding which quadrant you are in now, and how is your income generated. There are four quadrants with different characteristics.

Cashflow_Quadrant

E for Employee
You are working for someone else. Those who rely on monthly paychecks and could not survive once the paycheck is delayed or gone.

S for Self Employed/Small Business Owner
Where a person owns his own job and is his own boss. If he is sick for a week, then his income will be stopped for a week.

B for Business Owner

Where a person owns a system of making money, rather than a job to make money. This is an example of Mcd. Where they have the entire
system controlled by employees and the system is making money for them.

I for Investors
Spending money in order to receive a larger payout in return. Investors are usually more the B quadrants where they invest their money in the I quadrant and make money to work for them.

So which quadrants are you in? After reading this book, I find that people in right side quadrants usually make more money than those in the left side quadrants. Robert Kiyosaki's definition of the 4 quadrants is so true. If I'm an employee, how long do I need to work in order to reach my first one million? Have you ever considered that? I calculated for myself..

"If I'm a fresh graduate and my monthly salary is estimated about RM2500, minus all the expenses and let's say I have monthly savings of RM1000..."

From this statement, I realised that I gotta work for almost 83 years! Gosh! No way mann!
These days almost everyone achieves their first million easily, and I mean those earning the first million by themselves k..not those rich kids..hehhe! That is why now I'm looking for better opportunities rather than working for someone else.

I'm considered as self employed now as Maxis SME agents. I generate my own income every month based on my abilities, which is also a no-no..but I guess it's better than being an employee. I should jump to the B quadrant but it's a matter of time. It depends on how the situation goes after I'm back from Indonesia. Anyway I'm also a newbie in the investors quadrant. I have started my first investment recently..hehhe! I'm always excited of the profits gained from the investments.

Please do not misunderstood my statement, I'm not criticising on employees but I'm saying this as of my situation.

Most of business owners earn the income without working much and invested the income into various investments which generate more income. Like the boyfriend's remisiers, who earned their capital investment of at least 30% more or even up to twice the amount of capital invested. And these people just earned their millions easily by investing in the right funds. The boyfriend's remisier do not simply recommend on which stocks to buy, coz he has an analysis team to survey before making recommendations. That is why the news of takeovers and etc brings heaps of profits to them.

Honestly I learn a lot from the Cash Flow Quadrant. I guess I'm gonna get other series to read when I'm free. The book is not that boring and the author writes in his own experiences as well. Which is why you wont find it boring. Too many interesting stories. Get down to bookstores and grab this book to read! (This is not an advertorial k! ;)

Perhaps some of you might want to argue with me on all the statements above..hehhe! Feel free to leave your comments and thoughts..let's share together!
